Peugeot was founded in 1810 as a family business by Jean-Frédéric and Jean-Pierre II Peugeot. Automobiles Peugeot was then created in 1896, making it the oldest car company in the world.
The first Peugeot automobile, a three-wheeled, steam-powered car, was produced in 1889, and only four examples were ever made. Thankfully, Peugeot now produces more than four examples of each model, and they are no longer powered by steam.
Their signature three-digit numbering system was introduced back in 1929 – the first digit indicates the size of the car, the final one its generation.
Since the 1800s, the brand has made a name for itself with arguably the hottest hatchback of all time, the 205 GTI, and their domination of the rally scene, most notably the Group B category in the 1980s.
As for their current lineup, you have the choice between petrol, diesel, hybrids and fully electric, but if you’re after steam power, you'll have to look elsewhere…

Why Buy a Peugeot?
Appearance - Peugeot’s designs are distinctive and modern, with sporty edge and undeniably French charisma. The cars are almost feline in aesthetic, with sharp, aggressive lines, “three-claw” LED light signatures and gracefully athletic proportions.
Comfort - Something standout from other brands is comfort and interior quality - soft suspension that absorbs potholes and bumps effortlessly, as well as supportive seats and high-tech cockpits, making long journeys a breeze and maybe even lulling passengers to sleep.
Efficiency - Peugeot maintains a strong commitment to the environment, but places importance on driving enjoyment. Their engines expertly combine high performance and low emissions, their gearboxes are specifically designed to reduce fuel consumption and most impressive of all, they offer an electric equivalent for each car in their range.
Versatile Range - From compact city cars like the 208 to versatile SUVs like the 3008, Peugeot's range suits a wide array of lifestyles while maintaining a familiar and stylish appearance.
Reliability - In recent years, Peugeot has scored highly in driver satisfaction surveys, including on AutoExpress's Driver Power survey. Peugeot also offers up to 8 years of battery warranty for electric models, providing confidence to those opting for an electric option.
Popular Peugeot Models in the UK
Peugeot 208
A striking small car, the Peugeot 208 competes with the likes of the Citroen C3 and the Vauxhall Corsa in the hatchback category, but offers a far more handsome appearance and a premium feel.
Plush cabin materials, paired with elegant, sleek design on the inside and out, make the 208 a very tempting choice when placed next to its competition.
The car’s notable ride comfort and good suppression of road noise give it a leg up for those who require long-distance motorway cruising but still want a smaller car.
The Peugeot E-208, the electric equivalent, is of course even quieter - it also remains a firm favourite electric hatch, due to its compact size and its appearance being almost indistinguishable from the petrol 208.

Peugeot 2008
If you love the 208 but want something slightly bigger, the Peugeot 2008 is built on the same platform but offers a taller, slightly roomier experience.
Once again, the car carries the handsome and sculpted look that comes with a Peugeot,
meaning there is zero aesthetic sacrifice for a more practical SUV.
For those with children, the 2008 is likely the easier choice - its increased size means wider door openings for rear-seat access, more interior space and a 434-litre boot, compared to the 311-litres of the 208.
The Peugeot E-2008 offers temptingly cheaper running costs, and like any electric car, a quieter drive – it also impressively offers the same boot space.

Peugeot 308
The effortlessly chic Peugeot 308 certainly stands out from other hatchbacks on the road - an eye-catching grille, aerodynamic lines and sharp, angled headlights give the 308 a sportier, leaner look - more upmarket and more aggressive than other models.
Quiet, comfortable and the addition of automatic cruise control and lane-keeping technology in some trim levels make the 308 as suited to long journeys as it is for nipping about town.
The all-electric Peugeot E-308 has the same comfort and style, while delivering up to 281-miles of range (WLTP).
Inside, Power ports, a charging pad, hidden ISOFIX points, and even sliding panels to hide cup holders give the 308 an organised, clean and premium feel, well-suited to those who love to keep their cars tidy.

Peugeot 3008
Once more, if the sophisticated, sporty looks of the 308 stole your heart, the Peugeot 3008 may be here to compete. A confident but sleek stance and signature Peugeot elements set this medium SUV apart from its competitors.
Its distinct, modern edge is accompanied by ample storage space, a choice between
electric, hybrid or plug-in hybrid power, and a very comfortable ride.
The all-electric E-3008 has been an important factor in making the 3008 family one of Peugeot’s top sellers, offering a huge range improvement on the smaller electric models, with the long-range version claiming up to 435-miles (WLTP) on a single charge.

Peugeot 408
A step up from the 308 in size, the Peugeot 408 competes for most stylish in the range - a sleek coupe roofline, sharp headlights and a unique grille make for an eye-catching car.
Despite its charming appearance, the 408 retains enough space and practicality to be
considered a family car, a 536-litre boot proving that Peugeot can balance style and substance.
More upmarket than other cars, the 408 is perhaps a closer match to an Audi A4, with
a premium cabin and high-tech infotainment system, making use of their i-cockpit concept.
The Peugeot E-408 maintains the stylish appearance and offers 281-miles of range alongside it.

Peugeot 508
With an emphasis on a modern, premium executive feel, the Peugeot 508 still works as a
family car but focuses more on turning heads.
In a sea of SUVs, this car’s avoidance of a bulky body feels fresh and exclusive - the
grille blending into the bodywork gives it an even more cohesive and unique look.
The suave 508 makes easy work of motorway journeys, and with its infotainment system,
cruise control and heated seats, you’re bound to be kept comfortable.

Peugeot 5008
The Peugeot 5008 is the brand’s biggest car, a massive SUV with space for up to seven
passengers and standing as a more stylish option than the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe it's competing with.
It’s on the same platform as the 3008, but longer and slightly taller, with the extra two
seats coming in the form of a foldable rear row. Even with the extra seats up, there’s still 348-litres of boot space at your disposal – with the row down, that increases to a whopping 916-litres.
The all-electric e-5008 is the jewel in Peugeot’s crown, offering two batteries (73kWh or 93kWh). The 73kWh powertrain offers a range of up to 310-miles, with the Long-Range model capable of up to 414-miles on a single charge (WLTP).
