Vauxhall has announced it will become the latest manufacturer to enter the fiercely contested electric C-segment SUV sector with an all-new model due in early-2028.

The as-yet-unnamed model will sit between the Vauxhall Frontera and Vauxhall Grandland in the British brand’s burgeoning SUV line-up.

To accompany the announcement, Vauxhall released a rendered image that hints at what the new model will look like.

Though the finer details will become clearer in time, the render shows a bold interpretation of Vauxhall’s ‘Vizor’ front-end treatment, as well as chunky haunches to accentuate its rugged SUV profile.

Key to the new Vauxhall’s existence is the move by parent company Stellantis to integrate the knowledge and hardware of Chinese firm, Leapmotor.

Leapmotor is one of the many Chinese origin companies that have been making headway in the European car market in recent months with a range that focuses primarily on electric and hybrid models.

Since then, Stellantis has formed a strategic partnership with Leapmotor that will now be extended to collaborative efforts on the development of new models, starting with this Vauxhall SUV.

“With this project, Opel-Vauxhall would bring together German engineering excellence with global technological innovation speed,” said Xavier Chéreau, Chairman of the Opel-Vauxhall supervisory board and Stellantis Chief Human Resources & Sustainability Officer.

“This innovative spirit defines the next chapter of our global collaboration with Leapmotor and Opel-Vauxhall is taking on a pioneering role with this project." The cooperation would strengthen Vauxhall's role as a key driver of value and electrification.”

The new electric Vauxhall SUV would be pitched as a rival to the likes of the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV5 and Renault Scenic E-Tech.
